This portrait of a sweet little Twite could gladden the heart of anyone feeling disconnected from the comings and goings of the natural world.

In the South Pennines of Yorkshire, Twites eat the seeds of Dandelions, Common Sorrel and Autumn Hawkbit growing in the upland pastures and meadows. They have strong beaks which are easily capable of accessing the nutrients within the seeds.

The moorland can seem a wide empty space when you go walking up there but if you look closely, there is so much life going on quietly behind the scenes. I especially love to watch the small brown birds that are often overlooked. All creatures in the chain of life are vital to the healthy functioning of the habitat they are adapted to.

A Note about packaging

Wherever possible I use recycled and repurposed cardboard sheets, boxes and other similar packaging to protect artwork I send in the mail.  I save all clean and undamaged packaging that I receive, usually from art materials supplies that I need to make my artwork. I hope you will also be able to reuse some of the packing I send and keep the repurposing cycle going.
