One of a series of Yorkshire landscape artworks I have created to celebrate the unique atmosphere of Upper Calderdale, Snow On The Canal features the Rochdale Canal running through Hebden Bridge.
 
I walk along here many times during winter and when snow is on the ground there's such a contrast between white tow path and dark canal water. I love how tracks in the snow tell the tale of bikes and footsteps of fellow travellers gone ahead.
 
The very tall mill chimney (date stone says 1863) dominates this end of Hebden Bridge and is a potent reminder of the town's previous history of industry and textile mills.
 
Can you notice that I made the original drawing of this print with white chalk on a blackboard? Then after I photographed it the chalk drawing was erased! It was fun to make a series of ephemeral drawings this way, though also sad I didn't get to keep the original art.
