This is the Spring version of my original woodcut print Spring Comes To Hardcastle Crags which is hand tinted in all the delightful fresh greens of the new leaves.
Hardcastle Crags is a lovely wooded valley near the West Yorkshire town of Hebden Bridge and is owned by the National Trust. Visitors to 'The Crags' as it is known locally seem to fall in love with this special place and it retains its beauty all year round.
" It'll be an anniversary present to ourselves - a woocut landscape of woodland fits the 5th anniversary traditional gift well. But mostly I love the cut strokes depicting the plants and stone, and the vibrant verdant colours." Matt from Newcastle upon Tyne
Hebden Water (the river) can be heard running through the valley and the sound of many small birds can create a tranquil atmosphere on the many walks that wind through the woodland.
As a Yorkshire landscape artist and a regular visitor to the Crags I could not resist creating this wide panoramic print that aims to show you the essence of this unique tree-lined valley carving into the wide open moorland of the South Pennines.
This woodcut print features an elevated rock formation that gives the place its name, and the surrounding deciduous woodland where the seasons create change each time you visit. Spring is a particularly wonderful time, the austerity of winter giving way to an abundance of pale greens.
The area is sometimes referred to as Hardcastle Craggs with two gs. I think this is a throwback to the Victorian era when exaggerated spelling was a fashion!
The woodcut is printed on beautiful, warm-white, Fabriano Artistico smooth watercolour paper in a variable edition of 100 prints. Each print is numbered and signed
